Odesa Black Once Again United Those Who Shape the Modern Wine History of Ukraine

On May 1, 2026, within the framework of the All-Ukrainian festival “DAY OF ODESA BLACK,” a professional tasting competition dedicated to the legendary Ukrainian grape variety bred by National Scientific Centre «V.Ye. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking» NAAS of Ukraine - Odesa Black - took place at the institute’s premises.

This event once again brought together winemakers, scientists, representatives of the wine community, businesses, and everyone who appreciates Ukrainian wine and viticulture culture. The territory of the institute was filled with the aromas of wine, lively conversations, and the special atmosphere of southern hospitality.

The celebration became not only a professional platform for tastings and discussions, but also a true symbol of the development of modern Ukrainian winemaking, where traditions, science, tourism, and genuine passion for the craft harmoniously came together.

As part of the festival, guests enjoyed several landmark events:

  • the symbolic laying of the foundation for a future corkscrew monument;
  • the opening of the corkscrew museum featuring the collection of A. Liubov;
  • the presentation of the new tourism route “Taste of the South”;
  • a tasting of wines from National Scientific Centre «V.Ye. Tairov Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking» NAAS of Ukraine, reflecting the character and strength of Southern Ukraine.

A special source of pride for Big Wines was the outstanding results of the professional tasting competition.

Big Wines Big Art Ivan Marchuk Limited Edition Odesa Black 2021, aged for 12 months, received the highest award - Platinum, confirming both the remarkable potential of the variety and the craftsmanship of Ukrainian winemakers.

Another distinction was awarded to Big Wines Big Art Odesa Black 2024, aged for 6 months, which received a Gold medal.

These awards are not only recognition of wine quality, but also an important confirmation that Odesa Black is confidently shaping the image of modern Ukrainian winemaking both in Ukraine and internationally.

It was especially inspiring to witness how a strong community is forming around Ukrainian wine - people who preserve traditions, support one another, and together create the future of Ukraine’s wine culture.

Odesa Black is more than just a grape variety.
It is the taste of our South, our history, and our pride.
