Pau Roca is an outstanding person in the world of winemaking
In the wonderful world of winemaking, where tradition meets innovation, people like Pau Roca push the boundaries of the seen and unseen.
It is with great regret that the wine industry lost this unique figure on December 7, 2023, but his contribution to the wine industry cannot be overestimated.
As Director General of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), Pau Roca became a central figure in shaping the global landscape of viticulture and winemaking. His contribution goes far beyond administrative duties.
Taking over the OIV in 2019, Pau Roca wasted no time. Under his leadership, OIV has become a leader in addressing pressing issues such as climate change, sustainable development and technological progress.
Pau Roka is a faithful friend of Ukraine
Pau Roka has always been a faithful friend of Ukraine. In the most difficult times for our country, he expressed invaluable support not only with words, but also with deeds. With the joint efforts of him and Ukrainian diplomats and winemakers, after a long break, Ukraine returned to the "great house of wine" - the International Organization of Viticulture and Wine, becoming its 49th member. It is in this organization that world winemaking standards are developed.
The return of Ukraine to the OIV is a significant support for the Ukrainian wine industry. After all, now it is an opportunity to declare oneself on the international arena, to interact with colleagues from abroad both in virtual and in real life, to show that Ukrainian wine exists and has the potential to become even more competitive in the future.
The influence and authority of Pau Rock contributed to the accelerated process of Ukraine's admission to the ranks of the international organization.
In addition, the activities of Ukrainian wine industry leaders, such as Dr. Ricardo F. Nuñez, founder and owner of the Vinos de La Luz group of companies, Volodymyr Pechko, president of Ukrsadvinprom, and Nataliia Burlachenko, director of Big Wines, deserve special attention. Their efforts have always been aimed at increasing the prestige of Ukrainian wine and expanding its presence on the international market.
To express gratitude and respect to Pau Roque for his invaluable contribution to the development of the organization and the viticulture and wine industry, the OIV, with the support of Vinos de la Luz, will hold a photo contest on the theme "The viticulture and wine sector in climate change".
This competition offers a unique opportunity for photographers of all skill levels to express their creativity and join the global dialogue about the future of the industry in the face of climate change. By showcasing the beauty, challenges and innovation of the viticulture and wine sector, participants will contribute to shaping the narrative of sustainable development and the future for generations to come.
The winners of the competition will be symbolically announced during the celebration of the centenary of the OIV in October at the new headquarters in Dijon. In this way, Paw Rock's legacy will be honored through the art of photography.
Detailed conditions of participation in the competition are available on the website www.oiv.int
We are confident that together we can raise awareness, inspire action and lay the foundations for a more sustainable future for the viticulture and wine sector.
As we look to the future of winemaking, Pau Rock's legacy is a guiding light, reminding us of the importance of strategy, leadership and collaboration in shaping a sustainable and thriving wine industry. Its commitment to excellence, inclusiveness and innovation continues to inspire positive change and showcase the art and science of winemaking on a global scale.
