There is no equivalent to it in the history of world art - and that is exactly what makes Ivan Marchuk's original artistic technique, Pliontanism, truly extraordinary.
Thousands of delicate, interwoven lines create light, depth, and dimension, making each canvas appear not painted, but woven. The name of the technique comes from the Western Ukrainian dialect word "pliontaty," meaning to weave or to intertwine. This very idea of interlacing became the foundation of a style unlike anything else in the world.
As Ivan Marchuk himself says:
"Today, with my little threads, I could wrap around both the Moon and the Earth more than once."
Pliontanism has become the artist's own visual language - a language through which this great contemporary Ukrainian master has been telling the world about Ukraine for decades.
Some of his most celebrated series, including "The Voice of My Soul" and "Shevchenkiana," were created using this unique technique. It also gave life to such iconic works as "Yellow Cherries" (1995), "Awakening" (1992), and his illustration for Taras Shevchenko's poem "The Cherry Orchard by the House," among many others.

Great artists leave behind more than masterpieces - they leave behind a language of their own. Ivan Marchuk has given the world exactly that: a unique artistic language that continues to inspire generations and showcase the richness of Ukrainian culture to the world.
Thank you, Ivan Marchuk.
